MARCH 24, 2006
Today I noticed for the first time
that the magnolia buds were peeking out. This tree blooms for only a short time,
but it is absolutely spectacular so I'll get photos as it progresses. I was also
visited by a hummingbird while I was busy snapping away. He's not at all
deterred by the freaky-looking camera and tripod, but I don't think he likes ME
all that much :-)

Last night Sean & I went to the
camera shop with the intention of getting an extension cable for my remote so
that I can hide in the bushes when I'm trying to get pictures of the
hummingbirds...they're skittish little buggers! We ended up getting that (and
then returning it today to exchange it for the CORRECT one!) as well as a 2X
teleconverter and an accessory flash.
The extender effectively makes my
70-200mm lens a 140-400mm lens, not even taking into account the 1.6 digital
conversion factor. I saw things with this setup that I couldn't
even see with my own eyes! I had no idea that there were pine cones so far up in
the trees 4 yards over and almost 100 feet up! And the difference in the
hummingbird photos from yesterday to today is simply amazing. I even had the
tripod set up in the same spot :-)
MARCH 29, 2006
It has been dreary around here for the past few
days, so I haven't set up the camera. Today, though, I needed to finally go get
some shots of the cherry blossoms...they're already starting to fall off the
trees!
